Subspecialty Match Fills 96 Percent of Positions, 91 Percent of Programs
The National Resident Matching Program released the results of the 2005 Medical Specialties Matching Program (MSMP) Wednesday, June 22, 2005. Aggregate data from cardiology, infectious diseases, rheumatology, and pulmonary and critical care medicine show that, for fellowships beginning in 2006, 91 percent of participating programs filled all slots. Ninety-six percent of all positions were filled. For its first year in MSMP, rheumatology mirrored these results, filling 91 percent of participating programs and 95 percent of open positions.
The 2006 MSMP will take place in June 2006; as previously announced, gastroenterology programs will rejoin the match in that year.
