T. Franklin Williams Scholars Program

General Objectives

The general objective of this program is to provide support to academic internists interested in careers focused on the geriatric and gerontologic aspects of their subspecialty at a time of important career transition, that from fellowship to first faculty appointment. ASP feels that support at this critical juncture will provide the impetus required for long-term career development focused on integrating geriatrics into the subspecialties of internal medicine.

Award Description

ASP and its partner specialty societies will provide two- to four-year awards with funding at the level of $50,000 to $75,000 per year (total costs; no indirect cost funds will be provided). The funding can support the salary of the awardee and/or the purchase of supplies, the salaries of technical personnel, and other resources necessary for the completion of the research project. The funding cannot be used to acquire administrative or clerical support.
ASP will provide the award recipient $3,000 in travel grants. The awardee must use the grant to attend the meetings of the American Geriatrics Society in years one and two of the award and the meeting of ASP’s specialty society partner in the second year of the award. New with the 2007 Williams Scholars, ASP will provide additional funds for scholars to apply for the visiting professor program.
